PASADENA PTA COMMITTEE SIGN-UPS
The following is a description of committees.  Please click below and use the attached form to sign up to be considered as a chairperson for any of the committees, or if you are interested in being a member of such committee.  Please be aware of the job requirements, and understand that certain committees consist of only the chairperson or chairpersons.

STANDING COMMITTEES (CHAIRPERSONS ONLY) - still open as of 10-6-10 in red
BUDGET
1 chair open: Attends Board of Education Budget Meetings and then reports back to our PTA about the school budget; works with PTA Council VP Budget  on designing promotional materials and coordinates volunteers to distribute flyers in advance of Budget Vote in May. (busiest time is January-May)
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Selects programs and events in which Pasadena will help our community (i.e. Coat Drives, Food Drives). Chairperson must distribute flyers, collect items and arrange for delivery to recipient.  (Activities are year-round)
CURRICULUM
Chairpersons represent Pasadena at monthly district-wide curriculum meetings and report back to membership.  Must be available to attend Friday morning meetings.
HEALTH
2 chairs open Attends monthly district health meetings and reports back to our PTA, brings PTA concerns to full committee. (Must be available for daytime meetings)
NUTRITION
Attends the district meetings and reports back to PTA, brings PTA concerns to full committee. (Must be available for daytime meetings)
SITE BASED MANAGEMENT
Attends meetings with staff and administrators to discuss problems with the physical structure of Pasadena and its surroundings.  Must be available to meet prior to school day approx. 8:15 a.m. every other month.
TECHNOLOGY
Attends district-wide meetings and reports to our PTA.  Brings PTA concerns to full committee.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES (CHAIRPERSONS & MEMBERS NEEDED)
BLOOD DRIVE
3 chairs open: Chairperson coordinates Pasadena’s participation in annual district-wide PTA Blood Drive.  Requires attendance at district-wide meetings, distribution of flyers, and chairperson must oversee class parent phone calls soliciting donors and collect sign-up sheets. (Blood drive usually takes place in December, with a second smaller drive in April)
BOOK FAIR
Committee members volunteer time at daytime and/or evening book sale hours.  Chairpersons must coordinate delivery of books, set up fair, schedule volunteers, distribute flyers, arrange for pickup of reorders, and repack remaining books.  Must provide coverage during school hours and during afternoon and evening conferences.  (Book Fairs take place in November and April)
BULLETIN BOARD
Chairperson obtains photographs and designs our monthly bulletin board with different themes and school events. (Year-round responsibility)
CANDY/WRAP SALE
Chairpersons responsible to distribute the candy/wrap packets, collect orders and remit to vendor, and coordinate distribution when delivered by vendor.   (Sale takes place in early part of school year, with delivery of items in November)
CHOCOLATE LOLLIPOP SALE
Chairperson must distribute flyer, collect orders, place orders with vendor, and oversee distribution of chocolate lollipops for our Valentines Day Fundraiser
CLOTHING SALE
Chairperson(s)  are in charge of running the clothing sale three times a year.  The sale consists of items already stocked by PTA.  These items will also be for sale at Pasadena events such as the picnic, PTA meetings, and Conferences.  Chairperson will also keep inventory of items and restock with new items or existing items.
CULTURAL ARTS
Chairperson assists V.P. Cultural Arts throughout the year.  Must be available to attend morning district-wide Arts-in-Education meetings in V.P.’s absence.  Helps evaluate cultural arts events.
FAMILY PICNIC
Chairpersons must arrange for food, entertainment and prizes for picnic held in early September.  Event must be planned and flyer must be prepared during the summer.
FAMILY PLANTING
Helps ensure that there are sufficient plants and prepares flyer for our annual Family Planting event after school in early May.
FIELD DAY
Helps order participation gifts for kids, collect water donations, and organizes volunteers to pour water during our school Field Day.  Chairperson must be available daytime in late May.
FIRST GRADE ORIENTATION
Organizes the tours, plans activity and arranges for hospitality during both the visits of incoming first graders from the Kindergarten Center, and parents of those students.  Must be available during daytime events in late May and early June.
FIRST/SECOND GRADE FAMILY NIGHT
Prepares flyer, organizes activity and volunteers, and arranges for donation of refreshments. 
FOURTH GRADE PARTY
Prepares flyer, organizes activity and volunteers, and arranges for donation of refreshments. (Takes place in mid-June)
FOURTH GRADE TEE SHIRTS
Designs fourth grade tee shirt, collects size information, arranges for distribution of shirt.
FOURTH GRADE YEARBOOK
Create and organize the publication of the fourth grade yearbook.
FOURTH GRADE SLIDESHOW
Create a slideshow to be shown at the Fourth Grade Moving Up Day.  Can use pictures from the Yearbook or in archives.
HALLOWEEN
Organizes and plans our school Halloween Event. Planning must take place during the summer as the Halloween party is typically held on weekend at end of October.
HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE
Selects items to be offered at our Holiday Boutique, sets up selling area several days prior to sale, schedules volunteers to assist students with their purchases, repacks inventory at conclusion of sale.  Must be available for 3 consecutive days in December.
KIDZ KREATIONS  2 chairs open
LONG ISLAND DUCKS; 2 chairs open
MOVING UP DAY
Chairperson must coordinate event which takes place at end of June.  Must arrange for committee members to provide decorations and refreshments and distribute programs during day of ceremony. (Cannot be 4th grade parent)
PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Organizes our annual Parents Night Out event.  Collects prize items and donations and assists with baskets, schedules event and prepares promotional materials.
PARP (Parents As Reading Partners)
Chairpersons must plan activities for students, invite and schedule guest readers to visit classrooms, and must schedule committee volunteers to assist events throughout the week.  Must also prepare packet and distribute them to students.  Event usually takes place in late January or early February.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Chairperson must schedule committee members to take pictures at school events and must oversee delivery of copies of photographs to Historian and Bulletin Board Chairperson.
PICTURE DAY
Chairperson schedules event with vendor, distributes and collects orders for photos, and distributes finished photo packages.  Chairperson also coordinates committee members to help children on the day pictures are taken in both Fall and Spring and on re-take day following the Fall photos.
PLANT SALE
Chairperson arranges with vendor for preorder sales and delivery of plants, and schedules committee volunteers to assist children during the sale.  Must be available to attend daytime sale in early May.
PRETZEL SALE
Chairperson is responsible to order pretzels from vendor and schedule committee members to work monthly sales during lunch periods.
SCHOOL DIRECTORY
Chairperson creates directory of students at Pasadena.  Must be able to work with computers.
STAFF RECOGNITION DAY
Chairpersons plan theme, order food, solicit food donations, and plan decorations.  This event takes place on a half-day of school in May, and other arrangements must be made for children of volunteers for that day.
TALENT SHOW
Chairperson and committee members work with the teachers in charge to organize event, and provide the refreshments and participatory certificates.  Event takes place in May.
THIRD GRADE SQUARE DANCE
Prepares flyer, organizes activity and volunteers, arranges for donation of refreshments.
XEROX
Makes copies of previously approved flyers.
WEBSITE
In charge of updating the Pasadena PTA Website as needed.
LIAISONS (INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE CHILDREN IN OTHER SCHOOLS AND COULD  PROVIDE UPDATES AT PASADENA PTA MEETINGS
